As part of the project „Inclusion through sports for children with developmental disabilities“, Special Olympics Montenegro hosted representatives of Special Olympics Iceland in Podgorica, the Capital of Montenegro.
The aim of this visit is transfer of knowledge/expertise exchange between project partners. Throughout the two-day meetings with coaches and parents, several topics were discussed related to challenges and solutions for better improvement of training sessions. Some of the points covered were coach-athlete and coach-parent relationship, benefits for families, children’s progress.
Coaches and parents involved in the project in Montenegro shared their knowledge, experience and thoughts in order to contribute for improving of this program and educational materials for coaches around the world with the aim of more effective, efficient and more successful implementation.
Both project partners concluded that multisectoral cooperation in countries is necessary in order to improve the inclusion of children with developmental disabilities and support the quality implementation of inclusive sports programs offered by SO.
Parents expressed the opinion that their children’s participation in sports activities reduces their worries and gives them hope that their children will reach a level of independence that will enable them to live a safe, healthy and fulfilling life.
